About the Retreat
From the author of Mindful Knitting comes the Mindful Knitting Retreat. Enjoy a weekend of relaxation, inspiration, and, of course, knitting, as together we explore the parallels of knitting and meditation. We will look at the ways that one begins to be mindful in everyday life and we will examine how time spent with our handwork contributes to both the experience and expression of mindfulness.

Included are daily sessions of instruction and knit time, interspersed with yoga, fantastic meals, outdoor activities, and loads of fun.

Explore how to engage with your world and yourself with kindness and gentleness.

Look at how the work of your hands can enrich the world - on both large and small scale.

Share your retreat experience with a very small intimate sized group.

Investigate generosity through participating in a group charity knitting project.

Indulge in daily yoga sessions, guided hikes, daily afternoon tea, and optional activities - such as sightseeing, a la carte cross country skiing, and massage.

Enjoy afternoon workshop sessions with our special guest instructors.

Mindful Knitting In Vermont

About the Highland Lodge
The Highland Lodge is a family-owned country inn, family resort, and Nordic ski center nestled in the heart of the Northeast Kingdom, overlooking crystal clear Caspian Lake in Greensboro, Vermont. Owned and operated by the Smith family for over fifty years, you will immediately fell at home at The Highland Lodge.

The special touches and personal service are outstanding. The service is perhaps only slightly eclipsed by the food. Arrival dinner, three meals daily, departure breakfast and afternoon tea are included in your package rate. Breakfasts include homemade muffins, breads, granola, and fresh fruit for starters, followed by special omelets, French toast, and waffles, or the Lodge's famous pancakes. Local maple syrup and Vermont cheddar are the finishing touches. Dinners are permeated with an air of casual elegance.

Their chefs create a new dinner menu each night, and features homemade soups and appetizers; salads with local greens and homemade dressings; and imaginative entrees featuring fish or seafood, red meat, chicken, and vegetarian fare. Dinner is embellished with homemade rolls, fresh vegetables, and our list of luscious desserts. A light dinner menu is also available. The Lodge is a quintessential New England farmhouse.

Inside the main Lodge are several living rooms and two dining rooms furnished in cozy farmhouse style. In the living rooms you will find couches, fireplaces, a Steinway piano, and endless shelves of books. In the main Lodge there are 11 immaculate guestrooms, each with private bath. The upstairs rooms, bright and airy, have views of the lake and either queen beds or twin and queen beds. Two downstairs rooms adjoin and are reminiscent of the Lodge's earlier days as a farmhouse, with claw foot tubs, built-in cabinetry, and broad board floors.

Above the Lodge with superb views of the lake are six tidy white clapboard cottages, miniatures of the quaint homes seen in the village. Four additional winterized cottages are located on the same hillside, or in the woods nearby. All cottages, clean and well-kept, have private bath, living areas, and porches, and range in size from 1 to 3 bedrooms. Most have kitchenettes and gas-fired or wood stoves; all cottages have electric heat. back to top

Program Schedule
After arrivals, on Thursday night we will begin our Retreat with an opening dinner where we will discuss the schedule, make introductions, and begin out wonderful experience. Friday and
Saturday mornings begin with a casual breakfast when each person may arrive in our private dining room at their own pace. We will then depart as a group to our private cabin, the location of our main Retreat activities.

During these morning sessions, Tara will give basic mindfulness meditation instruction, lead the group in guided Mindful Knitting sessions and encourage open discussions. At the conclusion of our morning activities, our yoga instructor arrives, and an optional yoga session is offered before lunch.

Lunch is an informal affair. Retreatants may seat themselves to eat when they are ready. Furthermore, if you choose to go out to ski or snowshoe, get an a la carte massage, the accommodating staff will set aside a sandwich, or even pack you a picnic lunch to take with you on your mid-day adventures. This mid-day time is your own - to explore the sights, ski, hike, knit by the fireside, spend time with fellow retreatants, reflect, or take a nap. At teatime, Tara will rejoin the group for our afternoon workshops- including knitting techniques, charity knitting and a session with our special guest instructor. After we conclude our afternoon, we head to the dining room for our formal group dinner.

On Saturday night we have our "Mindful Knitting Dinner." On this evening we deepen our bonds with our new friends, enjoy book signings, and celebrate our time together. On Sunday morning, we enjoy one last amazing breakfast before we say our farewells, and conclude a relaxing, restorative weekend filled with insight, generosity, new friendships and personal journeys.
